Southeast Ohio Summer/Fall 2003

Mike Bartrum originally from Meigs County ended up as the long snapper for the Philadelphia Eagles after graduating from near by Marshall University. He hosted a football camp in West Virginia and used the funds to support the Meig’s high school athletic department.

‘You Cannot Buy Happiness But You Can Pour It’- “Americans have been pouring happiness from bottles for centuries.” Athens magazine contributor, Nancy Groves wrote an all inclusive guide on making your own wine for the readers of Athens Magazine. She described it as an extremely pleasurable hobby and went on to explain how to develop your pallet to taste the wine and make sure it was something you could actually serve to others.

Schmidt: Always a Bodcat- “when Mike Schmidt becomes a household name, so will Ohio University.” Coach by Bob Wren who the stadium is now named after Schmidt became a third baseman for the Philadelphia Phillies. Schmidt recounted the four in a half years he spent at Ohio University as “the best of his life.”

Another #throwbackthursday with The Winter 1979 issue of SEO!

Underground Athens: The Hole Story- Jeff Spevak, Athens magazine contributor, took another Athens magazine contributor Phil Berg into the deserts of Athens to investigate what was under there. Although they didn’t find any alligators they did learn alot about sewage. They excitedly smoked a victory cigar after they finally made it to the end of the sewer tunnel.

Brewing Up A Bit of Britain- Dorthy Pettafor and her daughter Anne Sedlak opened the tea shop in downtown Lithopolis. The tea room held pub nights, teddy bear picnics, and English murder mystery’s. Plus their most popular event the annual Christmas tea. Pettafor is English so she only knew one American song to sing at Christmas and it was the National Anthem.
