
Maggie Allwein
EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
Maggie Allwein, from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a senior at the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism and will graduate in December.
Previously, Maggie interned with The New York Times investigative fellowship team while living in the nation’s capital as part of the Scripps in D.C. program and was an editorial intern for Pittsburgh Magazine. Maggie has also contributed to the news, human-interest, multimedia and sports sections of The Post during her time at Ohio University.
Although outside of journalism she is still found reading the news, Maggie also loves going to Strouds Run State Park, driving around during the fall, and hanging out with friends.
Haylee Leasure
MANAGING EDITOR
Haylee is a senior at Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. Haylee was raised in Southeast Ohio and has a passion for community journalism. She is excited to be a part of the SEO team and contribute to a region she loves, all while gaining valuable experience in the field of journalism.
In her free time, she enjoys crocheting, reading and quilting. She can often be found wandering around the local library or a fabric store.
Anna Hanes
DIGITAL EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
Anna is a graduate student in the Master’s of Science in Journalism Program at Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. She received a B.S.B.A. in Fashion Merchandising and Marketing from Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio. Born and raised in Ohio, Anna is excited to spend her last year of school in the beautiful Southeast Ohio region. When she isn’t working for Southeast Ohio magazine, Anna works as a Graduate Assistant at The Patton College of Education, where she helps with digital marketing and recruitment. She also writes for The Post and Thread magazine.
In her free time, she enjoys traveling, rowing, shopping and spending time with her pets, family and friends.
Tyson Bernath
SOCIAL MEDIA EDITOR
Tyson is a senior at Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. Originally from Toledo, he has found a new home in Athens. Outside of his work with Southeast Ohio magazine, Tyson also works with the Toledo Mud Hens, ESPN, and RedCup News. When he is not reporting, he enjoys running, watching sports and spending time with his friends.
Isabella Pedrera
FEATURE WELL EDITOR
Isabella is a senior at Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism with adjacent studies in political science and law, justice, and culture. After graduating, she plans to attend law school. When Isabella isn’t writing, she likes to spend time reading, working out, and spending time with friends and family. She is extremely excited to be a part of producing this edition of Southeast Ohio Magazine
Jack Solon
TALKING POINTS EDITOR
Jack is from Canton, Ohio, and a senior at Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. Jack is excited to use Southeast Ohio magazine and the greater region to become a more enriched and inspiring storyteller and discover the great people making their communities better. When not contributing to SEO, Jack loves to write stories, draw, play video games and sing karaoke.
Rachel Yount
IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD EDITOR
Rachel Yount is a Senior at Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. Rachel is from Southeast Ohio and has been reporting on local issues for 5 years and counting. She is passionate about politics and local issues, and is proud to shine a light on some stories from the region she calls home.
When she isn’t in the newsroom, Rachel can be found playing euchre with her friends or visiting her home in Hocking Hills.

Maggie has involved herself in several student media orgs during her time at Ohio University, and now, as a senior, she has devoted herself to Southeast Ohio magazine. Graduating in December from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, Maggie plans to continue a career in media, taking a page from Southeast Ohio, and write stories about local culture. In her free time, Maggie enjoys reading, trying new restaurants, and spending quality time with her family. She is so excited to be a part of the winter issue of Southeast Ohio and can’t wait for everyone to read it.
Grace Miller
MULTIMEDIA EDITOR
Grace is a senior at Ohio University’s E.W Scripps School of Journalism. Grace is born and raised in Frankenmuth, Michigan, so she is excited to learn more about Ohio through her position at Southeast Ohio. When she is not helping with SEO, she is helping with AVW studios and writing screenplays. Grace loves to hang out with family and friends, watch movies/tv shows, and play with her dog, Jolene.
Nicole Bell
CO-DESIGN DIRECTOR
Nicole is a senior at Ohio University studying Visual Communication with a minor in Marketing. Originally from Cincinnati, she was drawn to Southeast Ohio for its natural beauty and strong sense of community, and is grateful for the opportunity to share and celebrate the stories of its residents. Beyond SEO, she serves as president of Vivid, project coordinator for Thread Magazine, graphic designer for the OHIO DII Hockey team, and an ambassador for the Scripps College of Communication.
Ally Parker
CO-DESIGN DIRECTOR
Ally is a senior at Ohio University majoring in Visual Communications Multimedia. Originally from Toledo, Ohio, she has grown to love the Southeastern Ohio area after moving there for school. In addition to her design and photo roles at SEO, she is the Creative Director for Backdrop Magazine.
Outside of her involvement on campus, she enjoys working at Brenens, reading, baking and creating art.

Brandt is from Dallas, Texas is a Senior at Ohio University, majoring in journalism, news and information with a minor in sports management. Interests are sports and watching movies and tv.
Dr. Kelly Ferguson
FACULTY ADVISOR
Dr. Kelly K. Ferguson is an Associate Professor of Magazine Media at Ohio University and a proud adviser to Southeast Ohio magazine. Dr. Ferguson began her journalism career when she applied for a position as a music critic only to be assigned a column, “Charm School Reject.” Her interests include longform, immersion journalism, researched essays, and working with narrative tools such as character, image, telling detail, tension, and plot to craft compelling true stories about our 21-county region.
