Wine and Dine Locally this Spring

Spring marks the beginning of a new season that is not technically on the calendar as a season — festival season. Whether it is a church festival, school festival, fireman’s fest, or fest in Athens, these events include some of the best food, drinks, and activities that you will see all Spring and Summer. This week is the Moonshine Festival in New Straitsville, Ohio. Named after the famous beverage, this festival has everything from moonshine burgers and moonshine pie to a Garden Tractor Pull. This event is open 5pm Thursday/Friday, and 11am Saturday/ 12 noon Sunday/Monday. Going along with the adult beverage theme is the Shade Winery. Located in Shade, Ohio, this winery has nine different wines, made from local ingredients, to taste along with crackers from Integration Acres. Guests are also welcome to bring their own meals or snacks to have with their wine. Shade Winery is open Friday and Saturday 1-8 p.m.

Athens is home of one of the best farmers markets in the nation as called by Audubon Magazine. Located on East State Street in Athens, the Athens Farmers Market includes “fresh home-grown vegetables, mouth-watering fruits and meats, fresh flowers, teas, breads and hand made crafts.” There is also live music and a cafe area to visit with friends and others from the community. The Athens Farmers Market is open from 10 am – 1 pm every Saturday year-round and from 10 am – 1 pm on Wednesdays April 11 through December.
